Falloff, Mesh Cleanup, Edge Weight and AI Studio

New shaping and clean-up tools, sizes in millimetres, and AI Studio for making a picture and a 3D model at true size.

New

  • Falloff: Move, Rotate and Scale act on each point by its weight, set with handles in the view (Linear, Radial or Cylinder).
  • Mesh Cleanup: twelve clean-up options in one dialog, plus jewellery extras for loose specks, open edges and small holes.
  • Edge Weight: harden edges of a subdivided surface without adding geometry, then Make Print Mesh for a printable body.
  • Centre and Size in mm: centre objects or points on the origin, the cursor or another object, and type sizes in millimetres, not percent.
  • AI Studio: describe a piece, make a reference picture, send it to Tripo for a 3D model and place it at true size.
  • Your own AI app can drive AI Studio, but any paid request waits for your click on Allow.

Improved

  • The section bar gains Shape and AI; a section opens its own panels, and Setting lists its sub-panels.
  • A live weight line heads Check and Start Here, and findings read narrowly, worst first, with the full sentence of the one you pick.

Fixed

  • AI Studio now refuses files that are not real PNG, JPEG or WEBP pictures, and sends nothing it has not checked.
  • A paid request now needs your own click, and every started job counts against the daily spending allowance.

2.17.0

Job files for scripts and AI helpers

No change to the panels: scripts and AI helpers can now drive the add-on from a job file.

New

  • Job files: a script or AI helper can build and check jewellery from one job file, with no Blender window open.
  • Cage: a ring band held as a light control cage under a subdivision surface, solved so the surface passes through the sections you ask for.

Improved

  • Internal change for scripts only: every tool, setting and book figure is described in a reference card kept in step with the code.
  • A job file is checked in full before anything is built, and a refusal lists every reason.
2.16.0

A signet ring maker

Build a signet ring from a few picture choices, check it against the book and get print files.

New

  • Signet panel: eight starting profiles; choose the face (oval, round, cushion or octagon), the shank, the border and what is cut.
  • Cut text in any script, a picture or a relief; Persian and Arabic letters are joined correctly.
  • Both forms: a one-part ring for the prototype print, and head and shank apart for production.
  • Save and load every choice as a small sheet file, checked in full before it is used.

Improved

  • Each build checks the bore against the ring size, the flat face and the shank, and weighs the ring.
  • Blank Sheet resets every choice but keeps your size, metal and quality.

In the manual:Signet: build a signet ringPrepare a piece for printing

2.15.0

Live Mirror, Live Turn and Live Sizes

See the other half of a ring, or turned copies, on the same mesh as you work, and read sizes as you scale.

New

  • Live Mirror: one click shows the other half across the ring's middle on the same mesh, in Edit Mode and Object Mode.
  • Live Turn: copies turned about the ring's axis, joined at the seams, on the same mesh.
  • Live Sizes: shows an object's size as you scale it, and in Edit Mode the length of each edge you change, with the change.
  • Join Within, in millimetres, joins points closer than the gap you set; Make Real applies the result.

Improved

  • The report is read from the mesh at every redraw, and a very large mesh is read once on request.

In the manual:Mirror and Copy, Live Mirror and Live TurnMeasure: reference pictures, ruler and live sizes

2.14.1

Claw height and diameter rules

Claws now stand 2.00 mm above the table and keep one diameter, and Seat Run-Out says what it is for.

Improved

  • Claws stand 2.00 mm above the table by default, with or without a talon tip; shorter is a choice you make.
  • A claw keeps one diameter from foot to tip by default; a taper or a flare is something you set.
  • Seat Run-Out explains that it is for a small stone's seat beside a neighbouring claw, never for a stone's own claws.
  • A warning appears when run-out cutters are made for a stone that has claws of its own.

In the manual:Claws: make, place, bend and editSeats, divots and azure cutters

2.14.0

Halo layout, bent claws, head and shank

Lay out a halo before any metal, bend claw legs, and send every ring out in one-part and two-part forms.

New

  • Halo Layout: reads a round centre stone and its claws, and offers every ring of small stones that fits, with figures.
  • Halo Band and Tilt: builds the band, makes a seat cutter for each small stone, and reads the metal left.
  • Bend Leg: gives a claw a swept, bent leg while its top stays exactly as made.
  • Seat Run-Out: a seat cutter that closes as a cone, for a small stone's seat beside a claw's foot.
  • Head and Shank: measure the parting, then split a ring into head and shank, or fuse parts built apart.

Improved

  • Castle Setting recognises a halo round a centre stone and accepts the close-halo pattern instead of warning.
  • Cut Row now finishes the cut body cleanly, without stray fins or triangles of no area.

2.13.1

Baguette seats and cleaner cut metal

A fix to the baguette seat cutter, a safer Cut Metal and a stricter print-clean check.

Improved

  • Cut Metal applies the piece's live modifiers first by default, so they cannot act a second time on the cut.
  • The print-clean measure counts what a print file would contain, including faces with collinear corners.
  • The azure rib stays at 0.40 mm by default, with 0.30 mm as the floor.

Fixed

  • The baguette's seat cutter no longer passes through itself.

In the manual:Seats, divots and azure cutters

2.13.0

Castle Setting

U cutters, V cutters and a channel for a row or ring of stones, with a measured verdict.

New

  • Castle Setting: for one row or ring of stones, a U cutter per stone, V cutters between neighbours, and the channel.
  • Choose which walls get the V cut, including shared claws, and read back every claw and block against the book's figures.
  • Walls can be Both, Outer, Inner, Left or Right, and the cutters follow stones that lean.

Improved

  • Read-back gives a verdict on gaps, metal beyond the girdle, claw widths and cut depths before anything is cut.

In the manual:Castle setting: U cutters, V cutters, channel

2.12.0

Azure Cutters

Open the back of a piece under a field of stones, with one measured cutter per stone.

New

  • Azure Cutters: one cutter per stone that carries the seat's light hole down to a cell on the back, like a honeycomb.
  • Every stone gets a verdict: funnel, round opening or none, with the reason and its numbers.
  • Check and Remove report stale cutters and the metal taken in grams, and clear the azures.

Improved

  • Ribs, walls and the metal under each seat are measured in 3D after the cutters are built; defaults come from the book where it speaks.

In the manual:Seats, divots and azure cutters

2.11.0

Section bar, start object, reference pictures, ruler

A bar of sections at the head of the tab, a choice of what new files open with, reference pictures at true size, and a ruler.

New

  • Section bar: choose Start, Rings, Gems, Setting and more, and the tab shows only that section's panels.
  • New Files Open With: a finger rail at a size you set, a box, or your own object in every new file.
  • Reference Image: a picture at true size on the front, side or top plane, scaled by two points and a typed distance.
  • Ruler: measure in millimetres by click, by drag or between selected points; T reads wall thickness and Alt+T starts it.

Improved

  • Follow the Tool shows a tool's section when you start it by key, pie or menu.

In the manual:Your first look at the tabSetup: units, alloy, presets and new filesMeasure: reference pictures, ruler and live sizes

2.10.0

Shared claws, polar axis key, retopology button

A fourth claw snap for claws shared by two stones, a polar-axis key while placing, and the retopology tools reachable from the tab.

New

  • Shared claw snap: press S in Place Claws to put a claw the same distance from two neighbouring stones.
  • A steps the axis of a polar array while placing, and Shift+A steps back.
  • A Retopology button at the foot of Start Here opens the built-in retopology tools.

Improved

  • A shared claw stands on the mean of the two stones' axes, and Ctrl slides it along its line.
  • All eighteen cuts are now included in the add-on download.

In the manual:Claws: make, place, bend and editPlace & Guides: place stones on a surfaceMesh: cleanup, edge weight, Quad Fill, retopology

2.9.0

Eighteen new cuts, built to fit the stone

Eighteen faceted cuts join the round brilliant, and seats, claws and bezels are built for the stone as it is.

New

  • Eighteen faceted cuts: oval, cushion, princess, pear, marquise, emerald, radiant, heart, trillion, baguette and more.
  • The cut shows as a picture; click it to see every cut in a grid.
  • Any cut can be set to any width, length and depth and stays exact.

Improved

  • Seats, claws and bezels are made for the stone as it is, not for a round.
  • Every cut is exactly its own mirror image, so a mirrored pair of stones is a true pair.
  • Files made in 2.8 keep the shapes of their stones.

In the manual:Gems: cuts, sizes and groupsSeats, divots and azure cutters

2.8.0

Mirror and Copy for any object

One window mirrors or copies any object about a reference you choose, and the copy can follow its original.

New

  • Mirror (Alt+M): choose what to mirror about: the guide's middle, the origin, the 3D cursor, another object, a picked line or its own centre.
  • Copy Follows the Original: the copy redraws itself when the original is moved, edited or given a modifier.
  • Turn Copies makes copies turned about the same references.

Improved

  • A mirrored copy is a true mirror, never a negative scale, and modifiers such as Subdivision are mirrored exactly.
  • The quick pie's Symmetry entry became Mirror and Copy, and still holds the twin tools.

In the manual:Mirror and Copy, Live Mirror and Live TurnKeys and menusAn ornament flowed onto a band

2.7.1

Keep Shape and two Flow fixes

Stones and drops now land whole on a flowed surface, and two band-unwrapping faults are fixed.

New

  • Keep Shape: select a stone or a drop and it lands whole on the piece instead of bending with the surface.

Fixed

  • A band pulled out of round is no longer rolled out round the ring as if it were circular.
  • A band picked all the way round is no longer unwrapped as a loop; whether it closes is read from how its faces join.

In the manual:Flow on Surface: draw flat, carry onto the piece

2.7.0

Flow on Surface

Draw ornament flat and carry it onto a band or other surface at true size.

New

  • Make Guide lays picked faces, or a band's outer face, flat at true size with a millimetre grid and o'clock marks.
  • Draw on the guide and the pattern appears live on the piece, all the way round a closed band.
  • Make Real bakes the pattern into a mesh; Join to Piece unites it with the piece and checks the result.

Improved

  • The guide says how true it is: exact on a flat face, true along the centre on a dome.

In the manual:Flow on Surface: draw flat, carry onto the pieceAn ornament flowed onto a band

2.6.0

Holes follow the stone, hide stones, mesh tools

Through holes follow the stone, divots give blind seats, stones hide in groups, and Edit Mode gains Quad Fill and tools for loops of points.

New

  • Hole under each stone: Through, Divot (a blind seat that never breaks through) or None.
  • Gem Groups: hide, show or select stones by size, cut, stone or your own groups; the eye hides every stone at once.
  • Quad Fill: fills n-gons and open borders with four-sided faces; border points never move.
  • Tools for loops of points built in: bridge, circle, curve, flatten, loft, relax, space and stretch to a stroke.

Improved

  • Through holes follow the stone's size (0.25 times the girdle past the culet by default) instead of a fixed 10 mm.
  • The Cutters panel says what the hole depth means for the active stone, and reports flag holes deeper than twice their width.
  • Edit Mode keeps Blender's own selection colours, and W opens the retopology pie only inside a retopology tool.

In the manual:Seats, divots and azure cuttersGems: cuts, sizes and groupsMesh: cleanup, edge weight, Quad Fill, retopology

2.5.0

Retopology tools built in

Six retopology tools, a set-up window for navigation and units, and install guidance.

New

  • Six retopology tools built in: add points and faces singly, draw strips of quads, bridge edges, make rings, drag points, even out spacing.
  • Retopology extras: mirror, pin and unpin points, clean up, and the tools' settings in the add-on's preferences.
  • A one-time Set Up window offers bench navigation (Alt + left drag) or Blender's default, and millimetres.

Improved

  • Objects the add-on makes are named with a CJ_ prefix and recognised by a hidden tag, so you can rename them freely.
  • Files made in 2.4.0 load unchanged.

In the manual:Install the add-onMesh: cleanup, edge weight, Quad Fill, retopologySetup: units, alloy, presets and new filesKeys and menus

2.4.0

The J pie, Jeweller menu and Edit Array

Three ways into the tools (a quick pie, a header menu and a Start Here panel), and arrays you can change after they are made.

New

  • J opens a quick pie: Place Gems, Place Claws, Edit on Surface, Make Claws, Mirror and Copy, Make Cutters, Guides, All Commands.
  • A Jeweller menu in the 3D view header lists every command in the order a piece is made, with each key shown.
  • Start Here: the usual order of work as numbered buttons.
  • Edit Array changes the count, angle, axis or mirrors of a symmetry group after it is made.

Improved

  • Claw names are clearer: Pave claw (a small shared pin) and Setting claw (a stone's own shaped claw).

In the manual:Your first look at the tabKeys and menusSymmetry: mirror and polar twinsClaws: make, place, bend and edit

2.3.0

Symmetry, Place Claws and Edit on Surface

Symmetrical designs with live twins, and two new tools to place and adjust claws and stones on a surface.

New

  • Symmetry groups: mirror on X, Y or Z or repeat round an axis, as live twins that follow their master.
  • Place Claws on Surface (Alt+C): snap claws into the gaps between stones or onto a girdle.
  • Edit on Surface (Shift+E): pick a stone, claw or bead, slide it over its surface, resize it or delete it.
  • Symmetry while placing: X, Y, Z, P and F work inside Place Gems and Place Claws.

Improved

  • Re-landing casts each twin back onto its surface, for designs whose two sides differ.
  • Ctrl+Shift+G flips the guides in Object Mode.

In the manual:Symmetry: mirror and polar twinsPlace & Guides: place stones on a surfaceClaws: make, place, bend and editKeys and menus

2.2.1

No claw thinner than 0.35 mm

A floor of 0.35 mm for every claw and prong.

Improved

  • Any requested claw or prong diameter below 0.35 mm is raised to 0.35 mm, so none is built thinner.

In the manual:Claws: make, place, bend and edit

2.2.0

Seat cutters, pave claws and row ends

Seat cutters default to 95 percent of the girdle, pave gets small claws instead of balls, and row ends are held better.

New

  • Pave claws: a small round claw with a domed top stands on the girdle plane, instead of a ball.

Improved

  • Seat cutters default to 95 percent of the girdle, with no extra clearance.
  • At the end of a row the rim is never counted as a hold; a pair of holds goes in the widest empty arc.

In the manual:Seats, divots and azure cuttersBezels, pave and channel

2.1.1

Light-hole fix, narrow rows, alloy names

Three fixes found while building a ring: no fin at the light hole, graduated rows for narrow fields, and alloy name matching.

New

  • Graduated row for a narrow field: one row along the middle, with the most stones and the largest at the widest point.

Fixed

  • No thin fin of metal is left at the mouth of the light hole under any stone.
  • Alloy names such as platinum 950 now give the right density instead of a near match or an error.

In the manual:Seats, divots and azure cuttersBezels, pave and channelReports & Checks: weight, checks and print files

2.1.0

Pave Fill

Fill the region inside a closed curve with graduated round stones.

New

  • Pave Fill: fills the region inside a closed curve on any surface with graduated round pave; other curves become holes.
  • Rows follow the outline, sizes graduate with the local width, and neighbours differ by at most one size step.
  • Beads and cutters can be added in the gaps.

Improved

  • Additive only: nothing that existed before changed.

In the manual:Bezels, pave and channelA pave band: a row of stones all round

2.0.3

Spacing while placing stones

Change the gap between stones without leaving Place Gems.

New

  • Alt+Wheel, or the [ and ] keys, change the spacing in 0.05 mm steps while placing (Ctrl 0.10, Shift 0.01).

Improved

  • The preview recolours at once, and the status bar shows size, spacing and the live gap.

In the manual:Place & Guides: place stones on a surfaceKeys and menus

2.0.2

Guides follow your last placement

Place Gems remembers whether you had the guides on.

Improved

  • Place Gems switches the guides on when it starts, unless your last run ended with them off; G toggles them while placing.
  • The remembered state survives files and restarts.

In the manual:Place & Guides: place stones on a surface

2.0.1

Shift+G now starts Place Gems

The Place Gems key was being taken by a Blender key, and now works.

Fixed

  • Shift+G did nothing because Blender's own Select Grouped took the key first; the add-on's key now wins in Object Mode.

In the manual:Keys and menusPlace & Guides: place stones on a surface

2.0.0

A rebuild as a Blender extension

A rebuild of the earlier toolkit as a Blender extension, with the book's standards and the first tools.

New

  • Installs as a Blender extension under GPL-3.0-or-later.
  • The book's standards with page references: ring sizing in UK, US, EU and JP, stone densities and carat estimates, and house defaults.
  • Units at 1 unit = 1 mm, with a panel warning and a one-click fix.
  • The first tools: rings, stones, placement, claws, seats and checks, each built to the book's figures.

Improved

  • Internal rebuild: tidier code, one place for keys, and a switch-off that leaves nothing behind.
